Happy Birthday to Us: Facetwitch Turns One, Not Five

A year ago I started this blog with the promise of writing three posts a week. The reason I didn't promise more is I wanted to serve a role as insightful conservative commentator rather than a news breaker. In fact, because the news that "breaks" is so often broken and misinformed, I've always felt it was my responsibility to dispel rumors and reveal the truth that mainstream media and lefty blogs either willfully or ignorantly ignore.

It's been a quick year that has seen a lot of changes, but I think for the most part we have achieved our goals. While some months have had fewer posts than others, we still got to 160 (or 2.98 per week) in our first full year. And many of these were long posts with detailed analysis and entertaining juxtapositions not found anywhere else on the internet.

We don't see a large amount of web traffic here, but what we do see is significant. It's not unusual for me to look at the source of our visitors and see the House of Representatives, US Senate, FBI, and once or twice even the White House (we know it was you, Valerie Jarrett - those Google alerts give you away). Hopefully, you were researching ideas and political strategies, not adding me to some terrorist watch list. Of course, we have gained our loyal followers and commenters. Your support is most appreciated.

I leave you with the above photo, taken this weekend at the G20 Summit. There's a photo caption contest over at Hot Air, but my favorite comment came from reader keepthechange, who astutely observed:

"Even though Sarkozy is much shorter than Obama, Barack is still with his head cocked upwards. Truly amazing. His chin is pointed up, in his usual Il Duce pose, and his nose is once again in the air. His entire face is facing upwards even though the man he is addressing is shorter than him by a foot. That is not an easy feat. Only a narcissist could, and would, find that position natural and comfortable.
And this is not to mention the finger in the lecture position.
History books won’t have much to say about Obama. He’s done very little and even less to justify narcissism. But psychology texts will use him as a notable case example of certain pathologies."

Ah, the epitome of arrogance. If only it were a harmless thing.

The Epitome of Arrogance

Last month an eleven-year-old worked the air traffic control tower at JFK airport, much to the chagrin of the FAA. A school age kid, after all, has no background or experience in the technology and safety skills necessary to land and direct a two hundred ton jet airliner full of passengers, a delicate affair to say the least. As a result, the workers responsible for that decision were suspended, and I suppose rightly so.

Yet a similar scenario is unfolding in Washington, where the man-child in the Oval Office has decided to direct and control the health care decisions of all Americans, remaking the system to his liking despite no background in medicine, the health insurance industry, or even running a business.

At least the kid landing planes at JFK was being supervised by professionals and didn't believe he had the know-how to permanently replace the entire system. President Obama, meanwhile, has undertaken the massive task of changing our health care system forever by pushing price controls, squashing the freedom of private insurers and doctors, and limiting consumer choice. His whole selling point seems to be, "I know better than everyone." Only a man of extreme hubris would suggest such a solution, one that actually doubles down on the status quo which will make health care more expensive for everybody while adding to the deficit. In fact, no statement showed more arrogance than Obama's statement yesterday when he said:

Case closed. The One has spoken. Of course the president knows how it plays politically. The majority of Americans are against this bill. The majority of doctors are against it. The opposition party is completely against it. Not one Republican can get behind this overreaching monstrosity. Even a fair number of Democrats have expressed their opposition. The only bipartisan thing about this bill is that members of both parties will be voting against Obama. But Barack the Magnificent says he knows it's right, so to heck with the rest of us and to heck with democracy. Even if that means changing Senate rules to nuke the filibuster.

We have a tyrant in the White House, one who was elected mind you, but who hasn't listened to the people since. President Obama does whatever he wants to do, not what the people want, and certainly not what Congress wants. Does anyone doubt that he would overreach further if not for the limits placed on him by our Constitution? This is the epitome of arrogance, and while many want to compare President Obama to Jimmy Carter, he's beginning to remind me a lot more of Richard Nixon.
